Traditional approaches for promotion of rural tourism products may include taking part at fairs, through cultural festivals, stalls at tourist destinations and using audio-visuals and print media.
Digital platforms have emerged as new age tool which functions on grounds of hardware and software tools of Information and Communication Technology and Web 2. The data regarding rural tourism and entrepreneurship opportunities through various digital platforms have been assessed and presented. Innovation in different areas of marketing and promotion is required to face competitive challenges and to reach the large number of target audience. Stuetzer, Audretsch, Obschonka, Gosling, Rentfrow, and Potter have shown the linkage to organisation based measurements of entrepreneurship with regional economic performance.
Authors adds that task of entrepreneurial activity is to offer a plausible mechanism to create new ideas and knowledge. These new ideas and knowledge can be used to find new markets and offer tourism related services. Entrepreneurial activity is linked with human actions for value creation which requires to exploit the new resources in which digital platforms can help the entrepreneurs to larger scale.
The scope of digital promotion for entrepreneurial activities are in areas of new product launch, know-how about processes and communicating to new markets. Cost effectiveness, ease of use, and interactive nature of this digital platform makes it useful for rural entrepreneurs.
It will help in promotion of rural tourism products and services at least cost. Any form of tourism that showcases the rural life, art, culture and heritage at rural locations, thereby benefiting the local community economically and socially as well as enabling interaction between the tourists and the locals for a more enriching tourism experience can be termed as rural tourism.
In India each state has various villages offering unique tourism products. There are acclaimed rural villages with unique selling propositions by Ministry of Tourism, India where rural tourism entrepreneurship is more. It is estimated that Rs. The World Tourism Organization WTO in its publication "Tourism vision", rates that there is high potential market for rural tourism.
It is the Non-government organisation which promotes Rural Tourism with groups around these areas with activities in Karaikudi, Kazhugumali, Theerthamalai, Devipattinam and Thirupudaimarudur and reached members through SHGs and activity groups.
