That worked. And I didn't have to install the printer on the remote computer. That was the best part because my users were getting confused. They saw all these printers available to print to because I had installed them all on the remote and they really couldn't print to them because they were either at another location or attached to a different user.
This way they only see the printers that are redirected through their connection. Much better way to do this. The work around is to install the driver on the Remote Desktop server and then change group policy so the Easy Print driver is not used first in a Remote Desktop session. I disabled this setting and it allowed the named printer to print. It even works without adding the registry setting.
